Problem recording NEW shows on DVR

$

Everything seems to be working fine with my service except when I want to record shows that are in the off season or brand new shows.  Case and point, on one occasion when I first got the service, I tried to record "Greenleaf" for my wife.  It wasn't visible.  But shows that were pending could be seen.  Once I record a show, it gets recorded then on just fine.  Another example, a few weeks ago, Toonami announced that Dr. Stone was coming on at 12 on Saturday.  I immediately tried to find it and could not.  I took a chance and recorded the show in that time slot and it worked.  I then set a new recording to record all the future shows of Dr. Stone.  Anyone figure out a way around this issue?  With Xfinity, I could record anything I wanted.  If the show was not in season or it was a new show advertised, I could find and record no problem.

Picture quality and surround sound on VMS1100 vs. VMS4100 DVRs

I have recently tried both the VMS-1100 DVR and the VMS-4100 DVR.  In addition to feature and performance differences (e.g. the VMS-4100 has: 4K support; faster menus; bluetooth remote with voice search and commands, instead of conventional IR remote with many buttons and spelled search), I also encountered some problems that perhaps others can learn from, and add their experience to the discussion.  The info below is pertinent for many who are considering upgrading (or downgrading) their DVR.

The VMS-4100 would not pass through / encode / decode DD 5.1 surround sound channels properly, which some techs confirmed -- it deletes (at least) the center channel, which makes it almost useless for surround sound.  Needs to be fixed, and hopefully will be fixed soon.  More information from others with the same problem at: https://forums.verizon.com/t5/Fios-TV-Technical-Assistance/FiOS-TV-One-VMS4100-Audio-Pass-Through-Only-Passing-5-1-Channels/td-p/879766

I myself went back to the VMS-1100 for now (the tech was lucky to still have one in the truck) just to be able to have surround sound work right.  But later I noticed some HD picture quality issues with the VMS-1100, where dark areas in particular had a lot of cloudy artifacts and banding.  This is apparently much improved with the newer VMS-4100, but I did not get a chance to test it myself.  I found more information at the following thread (among others): https://forums.verizon.com/t5/Fios-TV-Technical-Assistance/Poor-Picture-Quality-on-Quantum-TV/td-p/852596

If you have information to add related to the links above, then I encourage you to post there on the appropriate thread.  If you have other points of comparison to share, related to your experience with VMS-1100 vs. VMS-4100, then I hope you will add your posts here, to help inform the community.  Both units provide a lot of capability.  :-)

Pay per view, via TiVo

We have a TiVo box (and satellite box upstairs), with cable cards as tuners. No cable box.

I'm unaware of how to access pay per view.

Anyone know how this is done, if at all?

And if we have to have a cable box or boxes, how do they interface with TiVo?

TV Guide Stopped Working

Hi all,

I recently moved my router to the living room as it was next to the ONT previously which was in a metal fuse box, in the closet, covered by clothes. The signal was crappy and now it's much better.

I moved the router by running an Ethernet cord from the ONT to the living room. I disconnected the coax from the ONT to the router.

The TV guide as working fine for a few days like this but after I had to unplug and replug the STB, it now no longer works. The other STB still works fine.

Obviously this is related to the router not being plugged in via coax, right? What options do I have? Can I just split the coax in my living room so that it feeds into both the STB and router? Or does the router need to be connected directly to the ONT via coax?

HDMI OUT to AV Receiver Issue (FIOS TV ONE Box)

I hope some really smart people find this post.  Very frustrating problem here.  I have an HDMI cable from TV to HDMI Out port on my new Onyko AV receiver.  I am having handshake issues I think.  Sometimes the video passes fine and sometimes I get symptoms of a bad cable.  I called Onkyo and they said there may be confusing signals being sent and the Onkyo can't handle the signals "crossing" so it just burps and spits.  Doesn't seem to occur during viewing just at power up.  With inital testing, doesn't seem to occur with other input sources.  Unplugged FIOS Box.  I could use component cable and optical from TV to receiver and then HDMI to FIOS TV One and other input sources.  Would the hidden settings menu in TV ONE Box shed any light on this?  Maybe disable some settings so only one traffic stream runs thus making good handshake?

I am grateful.  Thanks!

TV Says No Signal

I have a very weird problem with a brand new Vizio TV.
I have FiOS, with two DVR set boxes.
I just got the TV and went to set it up last night. I plug in the 2nd FiOS box via HDMI and it says no signal, no matter with port I use. Yes, I've selected the proper input, yes the cords work.
So I try the box on a different TV, and it works fine. So not a box problem.
So I bring down my main FiOS set box and plug it in via HDMI. Works with the new TV!
So the TV works, the HDMI works and both boxes work but just not when I use the 2nd box with the TV, then it says no signal.
Any thoughts? This defies logic! TIA

1 Hour Time Shift Problem - Repeatedly

We continue to have this problem about every 3 weeks or so; we will turn on the TV and FIOS is showing a show that is 1 hour old.  Yesterday, it did it again during the day.  Reset the box.  Then in the evening, we were watching recorded shows, it ends and as it switches back to the TV, the show is 1 hour behind.  We have changed boxes for this issue, and the last time the supervisor of the tech said she guaranteed this would not happen again: proven wrong.  I see previous posts about this with no clear resolution.  What could this be?  Getting tired of resetting/rebooting the DVR box.

Emergency alert system restarts on demand

As far back as I can remember I’ve Been getting the weekly emergency alert message daily if not more than once a day , now it’s annoying but where my real issue lies is when I’m viewing Ondemand content that doesn’t allow fast forward. When the alert interrupt the content you are kicked back to live tv and when you try to resume the on demand content you were previously watching it forces you to watch from the beginning with no ability to skip to where it was interrupted.  This is especially frustrating when your near the end of the show being watched.   Please tell me that in 2019 this not intended!

Fios remote will not turn off TV, but turns off box

a one and a half hour phone call to Verizonn and a 1 hour chat have not helped.  It started all of a sudden.  The TV, when I  hit the power button, the set  goes to a screen that is more like a screen saver-it has the Fios logo, date and time with the message-press any key  to watch Fios TV.  If I hit it again,  the set  turns on again.  I have to use the remote that came with the set to turn off the set.  Verizon had me program it a number of times, sent a new STB and a number of reboots. The 4 other TVs in the house are fine.  It started about 2 weeks ago and had been working great, although it started off you had to hit the power button twice to turn off the set. If I hit it twice now, the set turns back on and I have to use the Sharp remote (the one that came with the set) to turn it off.    Can anyone help?  Thanks.

Tivo Mini and V87 Error

Hi Guys, I've had Fios for years, everything works fine except for one annoying error code I get on my Tivo Minis. I get the V87 "connection lost" error quite frequently and it gets really annoying. I usually have to hit Live TV or in some cases, reboot the Mini. Has andyone else had this issue and any success in resolving it?

Many thanks !

TV One voice remote does not recognize my Soundbar

I just upgraded to Fios TV One (Media Server & Mini STB), activation of both STBs took 10 to 15 minutes.

I hope Verizon reads these posts because my issue most likely will need their attention, I  gave up trying to talk to Support after waiting 25 minutes on the phone.

The Media Server (MS) is connected to my Sony 4K TV. After the remote auto paired with the MS; it could turn off the TV, but not turn it on. After I entered the TV model number via the Settings option to manually set up the Remote for the TV and Audio devices, the remote was able to power the TV On and Off.

I am however having an issue with the voice remote being unable to control my soundbar. The voice remote does not recognize my Yamaha YAS-108 soundbar, and the Settings option to manualy specify TV and Audio devices does not list the Yamaha soundbar.

As a side note, I was pleased to discover that the Infrared Verizon remote from the old STBs  also works with the TV One boxes.

Does anyone know how to access the channel guide using the Fire Stick voice commands, or remote keys? I can change channels using voice, but it would be nice to access the guide so I don’t have to switch remotes. Thanks!

FIOS Remote Bluetooth - What Good Is It?

$

On their site, Verizon touts the fact the new FIOS remote has Bluetooth, which means you no longer have to point the remote at the set top box.  I've found this is NOT the case.  The remote may have Bluetooth, but it DEFINITELY still needs to be pointed at the STB.  I tried pointing the remote in various directions and it doesn't work - consistently anyway.  The majority of the time, if the remote is not pointed directly at the STB it does not work.  Also, if there is any obstacle blocking the STB, the remote will not work.  For example - if my foot is between the remote and the STB, it doesn't work.

For such an "advanced" remote, it seems pretty feeble.

How do you fix aspect ratio for digital adapter

$

I had Xfinity and recently switched back to Fios for what I thought was a comparable deal. It is not. I have a digital adapter instead of a STB and a universal remote with few functions available. The TV image is too wide and cuts off banners and parts of the image. I searched the forums but my Fios remote doesn't have the button for the suggested fix. I used my TV's remote to change aspect but even at 4:3, I'm missing a few letters from banners and the image is too wide. Can this be adjusted or do I have to go back to OTA transmission for improved functionality and image quality?
