"Phantom" Entries in DVR Index

 Hello,

 Using a CHS 453HDC DVR.

Had a problem awhile back where many recordings stored on the external hard drive would not play. When we hit play for the problem entries, the STB would instead revert to showing the last tuned live station. No indication of any problem just play live TV rather than the recording. Further, if we attempt to delete these "bad" entries from the index, absolutely nothing happens.

More recently, we ran into a problem where the DVR was not buffering live TV.

I disconnected the external hard drive, through the on-screen menus, then rebooted the STB, after the reboot, the internal drive showed ZERO recordings. Ouch!!!!!

Plugged the external drive back in, and can see and play (most) recordings stored on the external drive. The strange part is that I am now seeing lots of entries for old recordings that had been stored on the internal drive. If I try to play any of these old recordings from the internal drive, screen reverts to live TV. If I try to delete any of these old recordings from the internal drive, nothing happens. If I disconnect the external drive, the DVR index shows only new entries (recorded since I lost everything from the internal drive).

Question is: Is there anything I can do to get rid of the apparently invalid entries for recordings??? I could just leave the external drive disconnected, but I actually want to be able to access the playable content from the external drive. Want to get rid of only the invalid entries from the index.

Have a ticket open with support. Waiting for the callback, but figured I would ask for advice here as well.

Also: Does anyone have any suggestions for how to recover the recordings that suddenly disappeared from the internal drive? In the old days, on a Windows PC, I might have tried an "undelete" program on a problem drive. Would love a similar option for our DVR internal drive...

Garbage hardware/support

Ok, where do I start....this is a WARNING TO NON-VERIZON customers: DON'T sign up for this JUNK!

I joined this company in November of 2019 (~6mo ago). Assumed it was 'the best' as it is outrageously expensive. ...what...a...mistake...to...assume 😞

FIRST: the TV box (ARRIS VMS4100) has been a straight nightmare. Absolutely and completely 100% garbage. And somehow Verizon doesn't understand this...yet

Here is a picture to show what it's been doing once EVERY month (since December).

PIC: https://imgur.com/EEFyXK4

(TWO red solid lights on front of box with no picture on tv - tv says no input)

Bet you couldn't guess how many boxes I have replaced since Nov....today (now that it's fried again) will be my 6th box. 6th....AND THEY STILL CHARGE ME FOR THIS JUNK!

SECOND: The 1800 tech line you call is 100% useless. No one speaks english. No one understands what your saying. And you (me) cannot understand ANYTHING that their saying. EVERY TIME I call to complain and get a replacement it takes a minimum of 2 hours...like **bleep**....

Now, you say, it must be the house/connection. We thought so too, but here are TWO points to counter that:

1. While the TWO red lights are on box A, I unplug it and plug in the replacement box (B) and guess what...it works instantly (after 30+ min of **bleep** setup time...which is a headache in of itself...). No red lights, just the normal green/white or whatever. But the box will only work for a month then poof...junk too.

2. I had a TECH come out: he checked all the lines, the 'outside' box, etc. all checked out fine. He gave me a [another] new box (6th one) before he 'completed' the call, set it up and was good to go. That was like 6 weeks ago today. Today: you'll never guess - yup, it's now junk too...smh

I am beyond frustrated! I researched these 2 red lights and don't see anyone else having this issue? How is that possible??? These boxes are complete and utter JUNK. Everything is setup correctly (internet works great/router is always plugged in) but yet the stupid set-top box fails once every month for 0 reason (seems to happen sometime overnight as its fine at 10pm but then by 6am its fried....every time)

lol...and get this: stupid customer service said if I wanted the older box because this one we're having problems, it would still be the same price but with 1/2 the features...hahah. Are they kidding me?? They should be paying ME to be using this garbage & deal with this headache (especially over and over)...

THIRD: Verizon doesn't even have 'fios' stores. Only wireless stores. So, this means WHEN you have a problem (and you will), you can ONLY call the useless 1800 line. And you have to 'try' and get them to understand your problem. Now, once you (hopefully) get them to understand, you have to go to a WIRELESS store and exchange these boxes and the people there have 0 clue about FIOS. So if you don't get an 'exchange ticket' from 1800 support, you cannot simply walk into their building and talk to someone to exchange it - you'll simply be **bleep**. For comparison, COMCAST has buildings & people that when you walk in they can help you 100% right there. 100% opposite with Verizon

This is a fair warning to anyone THINKING about going to Verizon, DONT! (and I feel really bad for anyone that has no other choice..good luck if so 😞 ) Their 1800 number is useless (out of 6 total calls I probably spoke to 10 different people - I went thru 4 different cs reps in 1 call once - and I don't remember 1 of them speaking understandable english - which will incur 2+ hours on the phone EVERYTIME!), and their techs that come out don't help much either.

If you think Comcast is bad (which we came from), trust me, the grass is burnt over here. Nothing good on this side. Stick with Comcast, they may be terrible in some ways, but I can guarantee that situations like this never happened during our time with them (we had Comcast for 16 years - almost 0 problems that whole time just got more expensive is why we wanted to try Verizon). At least they have stores you can walk into and actually TALK to someone that speaks english, and their CS has english speaking people. Their techs weren't bad either. And for Verizon to charge what they do for these garbage services/hardware is incredible,

Ugh, such a MISTAKE switching 😞 smh

FiOS remote vizio problem up down arrows

I have a new FiOS set top box and wireless remote, paired to a Vizio E70uD3 TV. The FiOS remote “says” it is connected....and mostly it is. It turns the TV on and off. The mute works. The volume and channel buttons work. The input buttons work.

However, the up/down arrows don’t work (when in apps like Netflix), and the menu and stop/start buttons don’e work either. Has anyone found a solution to this?

Issue with Mini One after FIOS Extender Install?

$

A couple months ago I had FIOs installed in my new home. There was no coax on the main first floor so the technician installed the router and main cable box in the basement. I voiced concern at the time that it would be ideal to have the router and main cable box in our living room so that we could get solid wi -fi to both the second floor and the basement, but he assured me we would not have issues given the new router (G3100) strength.

He installed the main FIOS One box and router (G3100) in the basement where the coax is located. The FIOS One Mini was installed wirelessly at our main TV with an HDMI into the TV.

Within a week we were experiencing a weak network on the first and second floors and on occasion would get a message on the mini box that the signal was weak. After multiple calls to tech support which simply reset the router and boxes I opted to get an FIOS Extender (E3200). This was placed on the main floor where the mini box is located and is linked wirelessly to the main router in the basement.

Since installing the extender the wi-fi has dramatically improved on the first and second floors (we use the majority of our devices on the first floor). However, now the mini box is freezing, locking and/or or pixelating. Verizon tech support has done standard reboots on the main one box and the one mini, which does not solve the issue and keeps telling me that everything looks ok on their end.

Every time I go through the troubleshooting guide it either hangs on the connecting screen or I get an error code which reads: "Applications.Storage Initialization failed. Press OK to reboot your STB." When I do that, it just runs through the troubleshooting again and throws the same error code or hangs when saying connecting. (Photos of the errors attached)

Is the timing of installing the extender related to the mini having these problems?

The wi-fi is still working well and the main cable box in the basement is on and cable remains to stream fine to that TV.

Verizon is now suggesting I need to spend $150 on having a technician come out and install a coxial connection for the mini box and they don't have appointments until a month from now which means no TV on our main TV. This seems like it should have been taken care of at the initial installation particularly in light of us voicing concern to the technician at the time that we would like to have our router and main box on the main floor of our home and he told us it was not necessary.

Can I set up my Fios router in a different room from the TV box?

Currently the only way I can get my fios TV to work is if I have the following:

Wall coax cable > verizon splitter >

> one out coax cable to router (plugged into wall ethernet as well) and

> other out coax cable to fios tv

I would like to have my router placed in another location, either another room with ethernet and coax cable or hidden with current ONT box.  However whenever i unplug the router coax from the coax cable splitter, the tv does not detect coax.

Any suggestions?

Fios tv with Ethernet only

Hi all,

I’m in an apartment that’s setup with fios gigabit internet service. I would like to add fios tv, but can It be connected via Ethernet only? As I already have a switch there that the router feeds to. Or will a coax cable need to be run from the router/ont to the fios tv box?

FiOS TV One DVR Issue (multiple VMS4100 units)

$

Just did my own FiOS TV One install of 8 STBs (previously wired for Altice, using existing coax in the house for the STBs, g3100 wired w Ethernet and coax for gigabit and moca over LAN, e3200 range extender.

STB breakdown is as follows:

2 VMS4100 (living room/kitchen)

6 Mini

My question pertains to multi room DVR.  With Fios TV One each VMS4100 can be setup with 4 Minis.  We have 8 TVs in the house, therefore we required two VMS4100 and they are each linked to 3 Minis.

Since the two VMS4100 are their own “servers”, it’s creating two separate DVR “networks”.  In having the two servers, I am unable to watch recorded shows from one DVR on another STB that is in the other ”network”.

TLDR; is there a way I can view recorded shows that are on one VMS4100 from a STB attached to the other VMS4100?

Thanks in advance!

Fios TV unable to access internet/router

$

I have tried several things and can't seem to resolve a problem with all of my TVs being unable to access the internet/router.

Here are the symptoms:
1) Channels like 838/Netflix do not work.  Error = Unable to access widget server.

2) Program guide has no information (so DVRs don't record anything)

3) Only the two TVs connected to DVRs get any service.  My other 5 cable boxes get stuck on boot-up when they find they have no network connection.

My system:

  • G1100 router connected to ONT1000GJ4 via a CAT5E cable from the Ethernet jack.
  • I have an Orbi21 router hanging off the G1100. It is set to AP mode.
  • I have an Actiontec switch coming off my coax splitter.  It currently has no CAT5 connections.  I did try connecting it to G1100 (leaving the G1100 connected directly to ONT Ethernet jack).  No change.
  • I split the coax 8-ways (7 TVs + Switch).  I don't think the splitter is an issue because I took one of the cables from one of the DVRs and connected it directly to the ONT Cable Out.  Did not seem to fix the problem.

On my ONT, I have solid green lights for PWR, BATT, DATA, NTWK, MGMT.

Flashing amber for LINE/CARRIER

Flashing green for 10/100/1000

Nothing for MoCA.

Self diagnostics on one of the DVRs/TVs:

Valid IP address for LAN, but 0.0.0.0 for WAN, Gateway, and DNS.

EPG Server, Widget Server, and Packages = Failed

I have powered-down/reset the ONT, router, and STBs.

I have held down the reset button on the router.

Not sure what to try next.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  And my wife may not kill me if this gets fixed soon...

I’m getting my floor done in the room that has the VMS1100. I’m going to have to unplug the system for 2 days. When I went to unscrew the coaxial, the other tv’s froze. Please someone tell me this is an issue and that the IPC1100’s are not slaves to the main box.

Need replacement DIN-9 Power Cable for i-211M-K ONT

Can someone point me to where I can get one of these DIN-9 pigtail power cables?  I need to replace mine, seems to be a short, and due to COVID-19 situation, Verizon states that they cannot dispatch a technician until December 1, 2020, believe it or not.  I understand the situation, and want safety for all, but I'll happily purchase one myself, if I can locate the wiring diagram (to build my own), or purchase a prefab one, just like the one shown in the picture.  Thanks all !!!

Set top box WiFi performance

$

How has everyone’s experience been with the quality of set box playback over WiFi.?  Mine freezes and skips.

i have a Verizon quantum router (excellent range) WiFi all over my house and yard, even when the router is in the basement.

I have moved my TV and router and set top box to multiple locations around my house and the set-top box only works consistently if it is within 10 feet of the router and not going through a wall or floor. Anything further away it sometimes works but freezes and skips.

I spent a lot of time on the phone with technical support and a technician came out and installed some new equipment but basically said I might as well just hardwire the set top box, and that I could only have two wireless set top boxes total per router.

In the set top box settings, it says my link quality is good, video source quality is good, WiFi is good, RSSI is good,  everything is good...... except SNR is fair.

has anybody else had this issue? The router obviously has excellent range. When the rotor was in my basement I could stream HD video in the far upstairs corner of the second floor of my house and in the backyard.
Do the set-top boxes have terrible Wi-Fi receivers?  I can watch my Verizon DVR over WiFi from my cell phone about 100 feet away from my router, yet the Verizon set top box only has a wireless range of about 10 feet.  I can watch Netflix on Amazon streaming on a fire stick 100 feet away from the router.   This is very frustrating because when I signed up for the Verizon contract I was under the impression that I wasn’t going to have to run coax all throughout my house.

any suggestions?
