Excuse me if I'm late to the party here, but I just "discovered" how to remove the banner ads from the guide:
Menu -- Settings -- Notifications -- Guide Banners -- Disable
Been a long time since I've dug into the menu of the IMG, so if this is old news, my apologies. If it's not old news, then I'm sure a lot of us will welcome this option.
