I really should be more specific by explaining what happened when I turned the TV back on after a power blip that had occurred earlier in the day:
The STB QIP-7100 re-set itself just fine.
Then when I turned on the TV, I got a large sign across the TV screen saying "Verizon Fios".
Then the screen went blank.
I don't know if I should have waited longer but at that point, I hit the "power" button on the STB itself and that got the TV playing. It's a minor thing but I just thought that was strange.
So that's how my original STB question evolved. So from what someone suggested earlier, pressing the "TV" button on the remote may bypass that point.
I'm going to unplug and plug the STB back in to see what happens. I am always unplugging it whenever I dust and clean around that vicinity.
